Students create three arpilleras, and learn the history of arpilleras and the cultural and political contexts of this art form. Teacher participants learn to accommodate materials and instructions for students across educational needs. Participants receive a handbook with references and handouts to continue exploring on their own.

Otomi Spirit Figures

Students create three Otomi Spirit Figures using various types of paper including Amate paper, and learn the religious/spiritual, cultural, social, and political history of the Otomi people and the place of the Otomi spirit figurines in their environment and lives. Participants receive a handbook with references and handouts to continue exploring on their own.

Las Calaveras Vivientes: The History of Skeleton Figures on the Day of the Dead

Students make a Catrina figure using recycled materials, learn the history of Dia de Los Muertos, specifically the use of skeletons and skulls on altars, and examine the political, social, and artistic history of this art form with respect to altars/ofrendas. Teacher participants learn to accommodate materials and instructions for students across educational needs. Participants receive a handbook with references and handouts to continue exploring on their own.
